Pump prices blown down?

BANGING BIG OIL

MAN'S INVENTION WORRIES REFINERS
by Untrue News Oil Bureau Chief, Janet Arapico
Haskell Peet of St. Augustine, Florida is just an ordinary guy with a knack for invention. When he came up with an idea for lowering gas prices, a lot of people showed an interest.

"It's simple, really" says Peet of his "Peet Equalizer", the device he has invented. "Most people who are trying to lower fuel prices go about it the wrong way, suggesting unworkable boycotts or pressure on congress. My invention really works!"

The Equalizer, no larger than a postage stamp, and about a centimeter thick, is a device which easily attaches by its adhesive backing to any spot on a gasoline pump. Its pre-programmed censors know when the price of gasoline is set above a certain level. When that price is reached, the device explodes.

"The beauty part" says Peet, "is that the station owners and oil companies don't know what price it's been set at. All they know is that if it goes any higher than it is today, they might suffer some catastrophic loss. It's foolproof."

Asked if people were likely to accept this device in order to save gas money, Peet told Untrue News "They already have. When we distributed these in test markets, we'd drive by and see literally hundreds of them plastered on gas pumps all over the area."

When told that station owners would simply remove the Equalizers, the inventor said "Sure, but the next guy who drives up will stick one right back on."

Asked if the explosive device is legal, Peet pointed to a sign at a gas station across the street. "$3.45 for regular" he sniffed. "Is that legal?"
