Man stabbed outside Hiney's seeks help at Hooters

A stabbing victim somehow made his way to Hooters despite receiving multiple wounds at a bar fight outside of Hiney's restaurant 41/2 miles away, police said Saturday.

Police were called to Hooters, 1170 Sunmount, at 12:47 a.m. Saturday after the 33-year-old Hispanic man tried to enter the business and asked for help.

The restaurant had already closed, said LaToya Johnson, a waitress who called police after she saw the stabbing victim -- with blood coming from his stomach on his shirt -- peer through a window.

"He was a regular customer here. I thought he was stabbed here, but I found out he wasn't," Johnson said Saturday at Hooters, which is near Cielo Vista Mall. "I don't know why he would come here, but he didn't even come in."

The man was taken to Thomason Hospital with superficial stab wounds. Police later learned that the man had gotten into a fight outside of Hiney's at 8220 Gateway East near Lomaland.

Veronica Lege, a waitress at Hiney's, said that early Saturday morning a fight broke out in the parking lot, but that no problems ensued inside the bar and restaurant.

"It happened outside," she said. "I just know there was a firetruck and four cop units, but the person who got stabbed left, I guess."

Police continued their investigation Saturday to try to find out how the man was able to travel from one restaurant to the other.
